Jumaldi Alfi Solo Exhibition at HONG KONG INTERNATIONAL ART FAIR 2012 Jumaldi Alfi (b.1972) — widely known simply as Alfi — is one of the most dynamic and influential artists on the Indonesian contemporary art scene today. A painter and sculptor, Alfi first came to international attention in the late 1990s as one of the founding members of the influential Jendela Art Group, whose focus on aesthetic and material exploration within a more formalist and personal territory introduced a fresh new dynamic into the world of Indonesian contemporary art. Alfi is particularly known for his compelling, personal iconography of visual signs reflecting existential and spiritual experience on both an individual and collective level. In creating his code of images, Alfi draws on a wide scope of references, from objects of the natural world, to Renaissance paintings and his own childhood memories of family life. The effect of his work is at once mysterious and intimate. Sin Sin is proud to present a special solo exhibition of Alfi’s work at ArtHK, curated in collaboration with the artist himself.
