I Gusti Ngurah Buda (b. 1975 in Denpasar, Bali, Indonesia)
I Gusti Ngurah Buda lives and works in Indonesia. Buda’s abstract paintings juxtapose urban and ritual life. The geometric shapes in his work represent buildings, windows and doors, which overlap more fluid elements, which represent nature. This dichotomy represents two sides to Buda's character, the geometric shapes reflect the artist's more refined and meticulous character whereas the flowing elements reflects his sense of freedom and expressive qualities for nature.
Like most Balinese, he is Hindu and his paintings depict peace and other Hindu sensibilities for nature. Buda's recurrent use of the concrete building imagery reflects his sense and fear of the Earth being overpowered by urbanisation, where buildings are replacing greenery and traditions are overcome by modernisation and shallow modernist philosophy.
Has been with Sin Sin Fine Art since 2003.
